The Evesham Police Canine Unit is comprised of 5 highly trained and certified German Shepard dogs and their handlers. Each officer and canine partner are required to attend a canine academy and must demonstrate certain proficiencies prior to certification for use in police work. The physically demanding academy training is approximately 6 months in duration.
All 5 of the canines are certified for general patrol duties (tracking, building searches, crowd control, etc.) and 4 of the canines are cross-trained for narcotics detection with the remaining canine cross-trained for explosives detection. The canines are deployed on all 3 of the patrol platoons to facilitate around the clock coverage.
