The Investigative Bureau is responsible for investigating all major crimes and provides support for the Patrol Bureau in preserving, gathering, collecting and evaluating evidence in order to identify and prosecute criminal offenders. All of the detectives assigned to the Investigative Bureau undergo training in criminal investigation, report writing, and interview and interrogation; as well as specialized training in at least one for the following specialty areas:

Narcotics/Vice Crime
Juvenile Crimes
Sexual Assault
Financial Crimes/Identity Theft
Burglary/Robbery
Crime Scene Investigation


While the vast majority of the activities performed by detectives are associated with criminal investigations, they also conduct administrative investigations for licensure (liquor license, firearms, etc.) and background investigations for police officer candidates.
